HAVING SOMETHING WITHOUT MONEY
Having Something Without Money
If you have ever swapped your lunch box with a friend in return for their lunch boxes during primary school, you have bartered. Bartering is trading services or goods with another person without using money. This old method of exchange dates back to early civilizations and had been used for a long time until money was invented. Well, have you ever thought if society used a barter system instead of money, what would happen? There are three effects of using an interchange system, which are being inconvenient, injustice and using manpower in difficult situations.
One effect of bartering is that shopping would be troublesome. The system is impractical and not flexible. In this situation, two people have to want exactly opposite things at the same time. I guess, it would be a hard to come across such a coincidence. Also, if this method implemented, everyone would have to have a commercial acumen and ability. In todays world, even a kid can do shopping with money easily. Put it in a nutshell, the exchange is out of everyone’s depth.
Another effect of exchange is that equalising would be difficult. For instance,in old times, people used to use bartering because of the fact that there wasn’t money. However, in this case, the materials that both sides gave weren’t equivalent value. There was an injustice. Because the materials or foods hadn’t specific value, there was not a rule in buying and selling. Then, one day the money was invented by the Lydians, thereby bringing a breath of fresh air into trade.
In contrast, bartering can work in some cases. For example, let’s dream, you promised to pay for a treat for your close friends and went to a luxury restaurant . You ate, drank and enjoyed. Everything was okey until the cheque came. It had costed a pretty penny but, still there was not a problem, because you were a rich and cool man. Grabbling your pocket, you faced with the grim reality: the wallet had gone. The sole remedy of coming out smelling of roses is doing dishes in the restaurant kitchen. This example is a proof that you can buy some services or something without spending money. Your effort can replace your money.
These are only three out of many other effects that bartering instead of using money can have. Although it is still hard to think , there is a life without money as old days. The worth always changes. It could be a piece of land, or the money ect. Exchange is just an option. Although it has some drawbacks such as hardship and imparity, it works in some hard situation as work force.
