‘A single droplet of antimatter contains the explosive power of a ten kiloton bomb. Antimatter is extremely unstable and explodes when it comes in contact with absolutely anything(even air). A droplet of antimatter can annihilate whole Vatican city.’ We heard these from Dan Brown. He mentions about this scary particle on one of his greatest book, Angels and Demons. To you, is it just an exaggeration or has it any likelihood? Who knows? Maybe, it can be beyond science fiction…

What is antimatter?

Antimatter is the opposite twin of matter. Antimatter that composes of antimetter particles has the same mass with the ordinary matter but, different electric charge, lepton and baryon number and quantum spin direction.

All particles that create matter, have an antimatter particle. For instance, positron is electron’s antimatter. This anti particle has the same mass with electron but, its electric charge symbol is “+”, when electron’s is ”-“. 

Antimatter  particles create antimatter by coming together in a smilar way ordinary matter particles do create ordinary matter. There is no obstacle in front of the formation of other all antimatter atoms theoretically but, anti matter atoms which are bigger than Helium, couldn’t have been both created in laboratoiries or observed in universe. According to the broadly accepted view; particles and anti particles must have created evenly in Big Bang, and consequently, all particles must have left the universe as a big cloud of radiation that is purified from all materials by annihilating each other. However, it didn’t happen like that. Somehow, matters formed today’s cosmos by overriding on antimatters.

Well, most attractive part is coming. 

Is it possible to create out of nothing or more precisely, can energy make into matter? I seem to hear the reply that it is impossible, common. However, the answer is “ Yes, it can.” But only when it comes with its twin, antimatter.

When they interact with each other they wipe one another out. Now, you will ask me where is the  physics’ first law which is called as law of coservation of mass. According to the rule, matter is neither created nor destroyed during chemical or physical reactions so how can it be? Matter cannot be craeted or destroyed out of nothing but, it can certainly be changed. This explanation is what exactly is happening. After annihilating each other, they transform the pure energy as a Gamma rays, great power.

Matter-antimatter collisions produce the most dense and pure energy we can have. A few gram antimatter’s energy can be bigger than a explosion of a nuclear bomb.

With just 1 gram antimatter, the twofold energy of atom bomb that was dropped in Hiroshima can be acquired.

NASA is trying to make space vehicles that work with the antimatter, at present. If they succeed in, it will enable to turn up astronauts to Mars in 180 days.

This is antimetter’s power.

But why we can’t use this extraordinary power?

Antimatter is the most rare and expensive material on earth as well as it is hard to produce. Due to hardship and slowness of manufacture, the value of 1 gram antimatter equels to 62,5 trillion dolar approximately. This makes it the most costly, valuable and precious things on earth.

Antimatter that humankind has generated untill today is amount that is enough to light just one lamb for just one second. According to Frank Close, a particle physicist in Oxford University,in order to make a bomb like in Dan Brown’s known book, Angels and Demons,to create enough antimatter, we need 10 billion years. So don’t wory! Any enemy cannot threaten us to destroy our world with technology of antimatter. We are in safe. Joking aside, if we found practical ways to create antimatter, it can offer numerous opportunities to us in all areas. Also, it will be one giant step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.
